The livestock and dairy sectors are key instrumental pillars of rural economies in Asia and Africa. They hugely contribute to the agricultural GDP of the regions’ countries and support the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers in the region. Yet, there remain systemic inefficiencies, inaccessibility to scalable technologies, weak value chains, and limited capacity of institutions. These continue to hinder its full potential.
At SkyQuest, we are working to fill this gap with the help of deep research, innovation in strategy, and hands-on capacity building and training specifically catering to local contexts. Our work is supported by data and is developed in collaboration with organizations, governmental agencies, and development partners in emerging markets.
1
Poor animal genetics, inadequate veterinary access, and limited preventive care result in low milk yield, livestock mortality, and productivity losses.
2
Fragmented supply chains and the absence of formal markets restrict fair pricing, traceability, and reliable income for smallholder farmers..
3
High cost and low awareness of scalable innovations—such as cold chains, feed supplements, and disease diagnostics—hinder modernization.
4
Women play key roles in livestock care but often lack ownership rights, training, or participation in key value chain decisions.
5
Rural institutions lack the technical skills, infrastructure, and data systems needed for effective service delivery, training, and extension.

SkyQuest worked with a well-known European livestock innovation institute and a well-known global charitable organization in a project that would change the pork value chain in India's North-East Region (NER). It was to make the pork industry more competitive and sustainable through localized capacity building, institutional collaboration, and a strong train-the-trainer model.
